Consistency Is The True Key To Success
Issue #30
Happy Valentine’s Day!! ❤️ I hope you’ll take some time and shower yourself with some much deserved love over the weekend.
Self-care is a critical part of our overall well-being and success, and so is consistency. As I was fact checking for this week’s edition, I was surprised to learn that “Quitters Day” – the day most people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions – is the second Friday of January, not February, like I thought. 80% of the population can’t stick with something that they decided was important to them for more than 2 weeks. 😱
Which brings us to today’s lesson…
Never Give Up
If you set some resolutions and aren’t doing so well at the moment with keeping them, this is not a “shame on you” message. I’m here to say that I’ve been there and done that too, and rather than lean into the guilt and shame of “giving up,” I’ve learned that giving yourself grace in those low moments is much more effective.
Chances are, if you’re trying to make some big changes in your life, there are bound to be a few hurdles along the way. So instead of throwing in the towel when the going gets rough, acknowledge that the “off day” will show up eventually, and then give yourself some grace when it does.
The key is to rest when needed, but not to give up. And the true measure of consistency is to never miss two days in a row. That one off day doesn’t have to ruin EVERYTHING unless you let it turn into two, then three, and then let a whole week go by.
I’ll say it again, rest, but don’t quit. Not only are you building new habits and proving to yourself that you have the resiliency to endure, but you could be setting an example for others without even realizing it.
So show yourself some love and grace this weekend, then come up with a plan to get back on track with your resolution or big goal for the new year. New habits take time to build and solidify, but when they become part of your regular routine, you’ll be glad you took the time to make them stick.
With you on the journey,
