How do you refill your cup?

Issue #38

As you’re reading this, I’ll be back at my desk clearing out my inbox after a few days away for a painting conference in Annapolis, MD. There were a few things that prompted me to sign up when the promo email hit my inbox last month….

  1. It’s all about the technical side of painting, which is not my area of expertise, so I was excited for the opportunity to learn more (you can go ahead and call me a nerd – my younger brother still does all the time 😂)
  2. It’s within driving distance for me, so no hassle with airports, ubers, travel issues etc.
  3. I’ll get to mix and mingle with old and new friends who are all in the industry and looking to grow their businesses as well.
  4. The hotel is on the water (my happy place 😍) and I won’t have to be ALL the things to ALL people/pets in my life for 3 days. 🙌🏼

Which leads me to today’s lesson….

Avoiding Burnout

Many of us are used to wearing our busyness like a badge of honor, but after “hitting the wall” more times than I care to remember, I’ve finally wised up and learned to pace myself AND plan mini breaks.

And the truth is, we all need them to be our best selves and do our best work.

I also find that having a break scheduled on my calendar, whether a work trip that will bring a change of pace or a vacation where I can truly unplug and reset, actually helps me to stay focused on the daily tasks at hand. If you’re just working and working with no end in sight, burnout is almost inevitable. But when you KNOW you have a breather coming up in a few days or weeks, it’s often all the motivation you need to push through.

So what’s your preferred method for refilling your cup?

And when’s the last time you did it?

If it’s been a while, I’d highly encourage you to open your calendar, look at what you have going on over the next few weeks, and then block out some time to refill your cup. Everyone in your life will be better for it, you especially.

With you on the journey,

Suhaiba
