How Good Are You With Consistency?

Issue #16

I’m not sure if you’ve been counting, but this is my 16th newsletter…. and I almost broke my streak this week.

With two big family birthdays at the end of October, a head cold that just won’t quit, and all of the energy and emotion leading up to and through the election, to say I’m tired would be an understatement. But as a dear friend pointed out to me a while back, consistency is one of my superpowers. And I made a commitment to myself, to another dear friend when I decided to start this newsletter, and now to YOU to keep this going on a weekly basis.

And here’s the kicker about consistency, it’s really easy to keep something going when the going is good, but when the going gets tough, that’s where the true test comes into play.

It would have been easy to make up a million reasons why I just didn’t have it in me to write anything this week, and most of you probably wouldn’t have noticed (no offense taken), but I know the path to great leadership demands that we hold ourselves accountable and do what we said we were going to do, especially when we no longer feel like doing it.

As a leader, you’re not only setting the standard for yourself, but for all of those around you who count on you, admire you, and are hoping to follow in your footsteps.

Instead of a lesson, today I’ll share my method for pushing through when I’d rather sit something out or throw in the towel.

  1. Acknowledge your feelings, but don’t linger there too long.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to reset your nervous system.
  3. Chose one thing to do in the moment to keep your streak alive and maintain your consistency.
  4. Give yourself permission and grace to give what you can, even if you know it won’t be 100%. Any % is better than zero.
  5. Remember that each new day offers a fresh start and a new chance to honor yourself and your personal promises….and remember how good it feels when you do.

Here’s to a restful and restorative weekend and a week ahead filled with opportunities to make yourself proud for sticking with it when the going gets tough.

With you on the journey…

Update – as of April 2026 I have not missed a week and am up to my 90th issue. 🙌🏻
