Is There Something You Need To “Just Say Yes” To?

#6 – Originally Published on August 30, 2024

It’s official!! I am now certified in three behavioral sciences, and the road to completion was a little longer and more stressful than it needed to be.

When I started my training back in March, the goal was to have it all completed in 3-4 months tops. With a book in hand, an online portal to work through the training, and weekly sessions with a wonderful teacher/mentor to dig a little deeper and make sure my fellow classmate and I really got it all, I was cruising right along.

We completed our DISC training, my classmate took the certification exam and passed and I mentioned that I wanted to study for another week before taking it myself. My mentor quickly chimed in and said “You can do that, but I’d like to encourage you to give it a try now.” I took his advice, and also passed on my first attempt.

Next came Motivators and EQ. We again completed the course work and all of our extra zoom sessions, and I felt good about the EQ exam, so I went ahead and took it. I still didn’t feel as confident in the Motivators exam, and now our 3 months of training were complete, so I delayed, and delayed, and delayed some more.

Then about two months ago while on a check in call with my accountability parter, she also mentioned putting off taking her final certification exam after completing the coursework for a new venture of her own. We both agreed that we would get it done before our next call so we could both keep moving forward.

After seeing “take final certification exam” on my to do list for too many days in a row, and knowing that our next check in call was getting closer, I finally took a deep breath, heard my mentor’s voice in my head saying “you’ve got this” and completed the exam.

And the minute I got my results I emailed her to confirm that I was now officially done. She emailed me back that she had passed as well (she only got one shot at her certification) and did so with a 98%. 🙌🏻 🙌🏽

This week’s lesson is Just Say Yes!

What I have learned, yet again, as I have done so too many times over the years, is that we often underestimate ourselves and our abilities. And unfortunately this is even more prevalent for women. 😢

What I have also learned, however, is the right people will be placed in your life at the right time, and they can see your full potential and will encourage you to do the same. When someone you look up to, respect, or admire says that they believe in YOU, they’re gifting you the opportunity to believe in yourself.

What’s something on your personal or professional wish list that you’ve been putting off for a while because you don’t think you’re ready?

This week I’m encouraging you to Just Say YES!!!
