It’s Time To Stand Tall and Shine Bright

Issue #40

This week’s lesson is add on to last week’s, so I’ll get right to it ….

Stop Selling Yourself Short

Last week I admitted that when I walk into a new room, I usually assume everyone else there is farther ahead than I am. Which got me thinking back to my younger days….

As a child and teen (and one with only brothers), when I stepped onto the playground, field or court, I didn’t care how good the other kids were. I just cared about proving that I had the skills to be there as well. I never held back so as to not hurt someone’s feelings, I never played “down” so someone else could feel like they were playing “up,” and I never let anyone win because I knew they were a sore loser (especially not a brother 🤣).

As I reflected back across my adult life, however, I realized that I have not maintained this attitude and approach as an adult. I have made myself small so someone else could feel “bigger,” I have kept my ideas to myself so someone else could shine, and I have let someone else “win” so it wouldn’t cause an issue with a fragile ego. And this was ALL to my detriment AND the detriment to those involved.

I’ve said it before and I’m probably going to say it again down the line…

NO ONE wins when we play it small and dim our own light.

And not only that, but we ALL lose when we keep quiet and stay small.

So what’s the solution? – “it’s time to be more like a pineapple” – stand tall, stay sweet, and rock your crown proudly.

It’s probably taken you years and many lessons to get to where you are today, and that’s something that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated. So share your insights, suggestions, and well-earned wisdom. And if you do so with humility and an open heart, no one should be offended, and if they are, it’s on them and not you. 😍

With you on the journey,
