Learn to Trust Your Gut

#5 – Originally Published on August 23, 2024

When my book first came out and I started doing interviews and podcasts to share my message, one question kept coming up, and it actually caught me off guard at first…

What’s your favorite lesson?

There are 22 lessons in all, and after some thought I landed on my answer – and it hasn’t changed since…

Lesson #12 – Trust Your Gut

Now, each time I answer the question, I add the caveat that it’s still a lesson I’m working on myself. Some days I do a great job of listening to my inner voice, and some days I still let all of the outside noise and chatter make me question the quiet answer that’s coming from within.

Here’s the truth – women’s intuition is real, and please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And for the men who may be reading this, I believe we all have the ability to raise our level of awareness and tap into our own “quiet” voice within.

I’ve been on a roll lately and doing a good job of paying attention and trusting my gut, but last week was a reminder for me of what happens when I don’t.

In my hast to wrap things up at work and get out the door on time, I shot off a quick reply to an email that could have waited until I got back, and then agonized over it for the first two days of my vacation.

And here’s the kicker – my inner voice told me not once, but twice, to wait until I was home and had time to properly address it (it wasn’t urgent, I just made it urgent in my mind).

In the end, nothing catastrophic happened as a result, and I was able to address it fully upon my return, but it was a good reminder to not only listen when my inner voice chimes in about the big things, but the small things as well. And after literally losing sleep over it while on vacation, I’m now doing my best not to let it happen again.

Can you think back to a time when you didn’t trust your gut or listen to that little voice?

How did it make you feel in the hours or days after?

What can you do differently to prevent it in the future?

This week, I’m encouraging you to tune into yourself, trust you gut, and listen to your inner voice when it chimes in. It’s there for a reason, but it’s our responsibility to quiet all of the other voices and honor the message when it comes through.
