Issue #37 I hope you made it past April Fool's Day unscathed. Growing up in…
You Can Rest, But Please Don’t Quit
Issue #7
I wasn’t planning to cover this lesson just yet, but after sharing the table of contents and first few pages of my book with a podcast host for an upcoming interview, here we are…
Get Out There And Get Back Up
This particular chapter, like many in the first half of my book, revolves around a sports analogy. So as I was preparing for the interview I was tasked with making it make sense in my current world, which no longer includes playing street hockey.
Thankfully, my brain does its own thing, and once I start thinking about something, the next thing you know all sorts of dots are connecting that I’d never considered before.
Here’s what came to me… the world is full of bumps and bruises, and I’ve had the wind knocked out of my sails (literally and figuratively) more times than I can count… But I’ve always gotten back up, dusted myself off, and given it another go.
Now, time for a few confessions to prove that I’m not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk. And a little sidebar – a willingness to be vulnerable is one of the traits of being a great leader.
When I held my first live webinar for my service-based consulting business, only a handful of people showed up.
When I attended my first book fair event, I only sold a few copies of my book.
And when I decided to start this newsletter, I thought “do I have enough to say and are there enough people out there that will want to read it?”
Now my webinars are going strong, my book is continuing to sell, and little by little, more people are finding and enjoying my weekly lessons. And while it would have been easy to say “see, that didn’t work” after each first attempt, like anything worthwhile, they all needed time.
So here’s what I want you to remember as you close out your week and head into the weekend.
You are allowed to rest when the going gets tough, but you are not allowed to give up.
You have a gift that is uniquely yours, and we need you to share with us, so please, please, please, rest if you must, but don’t quit.
